1. Description MENG SHAN 934-65.65 – (1,65 мм) is a cold applied tape coating system designed for the corrosion protection of field joints, fittings, and specialty piping. This system is universally specified in the oil, gas and water industries. Also adhesive make it the ideal repair system for all types of main line coatings MENG SHAN 934-65.65 tape with very tacky adhesive has a release plastic liner to enable proper unwinding of the roll. It could be applied after the primer by hand or with a wrapping machine. 2. Structure The specification of the tape MENG SHAN 934-65.65 consists of three layers: adhesive layer, base film and anti-adherence substrate. Adhesive layer is made of a mixture of bitumen and butyl rubber, as well as from adhesive resin. The base is made of specially mixed stabilized polyethylene. 1. General a) Wrapping application shall not be performed when environment condition humidity ratio max 85% and pipe temperature must kept 3 C degree above dew point. 2. Surface preparation Before the wrapping work applied, the grease ,dirt ,moisture ,water and other adhesive materials shall be removed from its surface. a) Eliminate sharp projections,if any b) Completely clean and eliminate surface deposits(scalling, rust, dirt, contaminants and foreign matters ,etc.)from the surfaces ,using hand tools or power tools(disc, sander, wire brush, scraper, surface preparation hammer, etc) c) Splatter residue,flux,mill scale,rust,and other contaminants shall be cleaned /removed by blast cleaning in accordance technical specificion documents requested. d) After surface proparation,the dust and abrasive materials attached to the steel pipe suface shall be removed .and being affected with damp,rust formation or secondary pollution shall be prevented .The steel pipe after surface preparation shall be applied within 4 hours ;If it is over 4 hours or rust is formed again on pipe surface,the surface prpartion work shall be carried out again . e) Stop wapping work in the open air under the weather conditions of rain,snow,fog,sand form,noticeable wind,etc. Note:STOP SURFACE PREPARATION AND APPLICATION WORK IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CASES: a) Ambient temperature is lower than 5℃,or higher than 40℃. b) Steel surface temperature is lower than 3℃ over the dew point. c) Relative humidity of air is greater than 85%. 3. COATING APPLICATION 3.1 The cold applied coating system shall be applied by hand or more preferably by using a hand-wrapping machine capable of maintaining even, constant tension across the width of the coating. The hand-wrapping machine shall be equipped with take up spindles to remove and wind the separator sheet as the coating is applied to the pipe. The use of gloves is highly recommended. 3.2 The coating system shall be applied to the primed pipe in a spiral configuration. The wrapping process shall start at a minimum of 4 inches (10 cm) beyond the cutback edge of any existing coating and start on the downside of the pipe. The release liner should be removedjust prior to the application of the coating to the primed pipe surface. This will prevent contamination of the high tack adhesive. 3.3 The coating system shall be applied under hand or machine tension that will result in a smooth, wrinkle free coating. The minimum overlap width shall be 1" (25 mm). Particular attentions should be afforded while coating over the girth weld area, to prevent wrinkles in the coating. 3.4 When the outside pipe diameter is greater than 12" (30 cm), the ditch conditions dictate or required by end-user specifications; if necessary ,a Polyken 955 outer wrap shall be spirally applied over the GTC coating for mechanical protection. A minimum overlap of 1" shall be used and the Polyken 955 outer wrap shall be applied to achieve a uniform smooth application. The end of the outer wrap spiral shall be cut on the downside at the 3 or 9 o`clock position on the pipe. 3.5 The coating shall not be exposed for a long period of time . 5.Repair 5.1Coating system defects founded,should be on mark ,indicate and timely repaired . 5.2Remove the burr ,dust before repair work. 5.3For large leakage winding or damaged pipeline coating layer which is exposed ,will remove damaged coating firstly ,and use appropriate width tape spiral winding to protect damaged area . 5.4 The repair material should be wrapped extend at least 50mm from each side of previous wrapping level .

Notice not to peel off the plastic film and lining paper in order to prevent dirty materials from entering the sleeve. 3. Use primer a. a.When the temperature of the steel body is between80℃to100℃, the first paint is to be made . Under the normal condition of temperature, blending with the proportion A and B, (one A matched one B).At the same time , the agitation should be even . In the winter seasons, the temperature should be heated to normal condition. b. The applying with a brush should be even and quickly . It is better to do the work by two workers at the same time . c. The thickness is about 100um 4. Treatment of Welding Seam a. b. Shear the pipe exterior coatings on both butt ends to bevel edges, use abrasive clothes or steel wire brushes to scrub the areas of pipe exterior coatings which will connect with heat shrinkable sleeve. 5. Pre-heat of Pipes 6. Heat of Shrinkable Sleeve a. b. c. When the sleeve shrinking is almost finished, use small flame to heat the sleeve again but completely and equably. When the sleeve shrinking is completely finished, the heat melting glue will escape from the sleeve ends. 7. Application on Elbows a. b. If several sleeves are to be used at the tip of elbow to pre-make exterior coatings, the overlapping width should not be less than 80mm. The heating method is as same as the one on straight pipes. c. Use several shrinkable sleeves on the over crossing pipeline. The heating method is as same as the one on straight pipes. d. When the sleeves are used to protect flanges, you`d better fill in the bolts at the both ends of flanges with fillings in order to avoid breaking the sleeves during installation. The heating method is as same as the one on straight pipes. Remarks: If the project uses heat shrinkable sleeve methodology to protect the pipe-to-pipe connections, the non-coated width of pipe both ends should be strictly controlled when the pipes are coated externally. For the heat shrinkable sleeves with standard size, the non-coated width of pipe both ends shall be no more than 150mm. If this width is bigger than 150mm, the sleeve width should be increased together. The overlapping width between sleeve and pipe exterior coating shall be no less than 80mm. The installation shall be operated by experienced workers strictly according to the above installation method. The pre-heat temperature of pipes must reach to the required 70-800C. If the temperature is lower, the adherence between the melting glue and pipes will become loose, which will reduce the exfoliation strength. The sleeve heating should be done evenly. The overheating of partial area will cause the crack of sleeve. We suggest installing the sleeve when the atmosphere temperature is above 00C. If the temperature is too low, it will be more difficult for you to preheat pipes.
